Rinse out your recycling

Since Norfolk’s councils have collected your glass bottles and jars and plastic pots, tubs and trays for recycling, thousands of tonnes of extra material has been recycled that would otherwise have gone to landfill or incinerated.

This has been a great success but the challenge now is to boost how much of this increase can actually be recycled by reducing contamination.

The two main contamination issues are:

  • Items covered in food or liquid residue
  • Recyclables are contained in carrier bags

Taking just a couple of extra minutes to rinse out your recycling once you’ve washed up, is really important and can be the difference between you glass bottle being recycled or not.
