Norwich City Council
The majority of the Norwich City Council area has an alternate weekly service collecting mixed recycling one week and rubbish the next week.
In a blue recycling wheelie bin we can accept paper, card, plastic bottles, metal aerosol cans, and steel and aluminium tins and cans. In addition a glass collection is offered from a green box.
New communal areas are being introduced to council owned flats from next year.
Latest figures show that Norwich has made some major improvements in the areas of waste and recycling - with recycling rates jumping from around 18 per cent in 2006-07 to over 34 per cent in 2008-09.
Other notable successes are the massive leap up the countrywide table of performance in the 2008-09 set of results, with the greatest achievement coming in being in the top ten authorities in the whole country for reducing the amount of waste per head by nearly 9 per cent - a climb of 140 places from the 2007-08 rankings and almost doubling of the district's recycling rate since 2006-07.
The introduction of a brown bin garden waste collection service has also proved really successful, with around 8,000 properties signed up.
