Are you concerned if collectors asking for donations of textiles at your door are genuine charity collectors? 

Textile collections are increasingly profitable which has lead to an increase in bogus companies asking for donations on behalf of charities.  If you want to make sure that the people asking for donations from you are genuine charities you can check with your local licensing department. Local charities will have to register with them to make collections, however, businesses are exempt from this registration, so the licensing department will not have a record of them.  Larger charities such as Age Concern, Christian Aid and Oxfam have national exemptions so will not be registered with your local licensing office.  Details of holders of national exemptions can be found at: http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/third_sector/law_and_regulation/
