Sustainable Fakenham

How Sustainable Is The Future Of Fakenham?

This was the question put to year nine students at Fakenham High School this November.  Geography and science teachers examined how to engage students in thinking about issues which will affect their local community in the future. Students took part in an inter-form competition, to design a sustainable housing development on land on the northern edge of Fakenham. They developed their own designs for this land based on an initial design and layout of the main roads on the site, before considering the design and layout of houses, employment land, primary school, public open space, community facilitates and landscaping and conservation areas. Fakenham
Students  were joined on the day by Jackie Piermont from Norfolk County Council, who gave students a wide range of informative advice on waste recycling and approaches that could be adopted in the design of a new community.

Additional support came from A Level Geography students at Fakenham College, who have covered many of the issues considered during this day as part of their studies.

Judging of designs took part at the end of the day, with 9NB being judged as the winners.  Part of the winning design is shown here.
